MAU Newnan Gave Helping Hand after a Devastating Tornado Ripped Through the Community

MAU Workforce Solutions is a company that cares about our people and believes in investing in our community, and this belief was put into practice at the Newnan branch in March after a tornado devastated the community.

On March 26, a category EF4 tornado with winds up to 170 mph struck the downtown of Newnan, causing extensive damage in the community. While there was no loss of life due to the storm, over 1700 homes were damaged, and 70 homes were destroyed. The downtown area took the brunt of the storm, with several buildings, including the local high school, demolished completely.

Immediately, the MAU Newnan branch sought out how to help their community. Nicole Bentley, Operations Manager, and her team went out that Friday morning to hand out snow cones to the volunteers clearing the downtown and brainstormed more ideas of how they could lend a hand.

That next Monday, half of the MAU team went to help at the Bridging the Gap food pantry. The team helped the nonprofit divide an entire truckload of food to be delivered to victims of the storm. They separated the food between perishable and imperishable food for households with power and those without, and they also made toiletry bags to give out to families affected.

The next day, the other half of the MAU team went to the fairgrounds in Newnan. The fairgrounds had been turned into a relief station for victims of the storm, and donations were lined up like a store so that people could pick out the items they wanted. The MAU team helped the community by loading people’s cars with the items they selected.

The MAU branch also made sure to take care of our clients and associates that were affected by the storm. The team made over 500 bags of candy so that both MAU employees and clients’ employees would have treat to brighten their day. The bags also had a message that said, “We have resources available through MAU Cares to help if you were affected by the storm. We’re thinking of you, and we’re proud of your hard work.”

MAU is glad to make lives better by helping the Newnan community as it rebuilds from the storm.
